Memento is a Telegram-first spaced-repetition service with a browser extension learning harness. This policy explains what we collect, where it is sent, and the choices you have when using the bot, website, and extension.
Information We Collect
Account and Telegram Data
- Telegram user ID, username, first name, and chat identifiers when you interact with the Memento bot.
- Timezone, daily review time, review mode, subscription status, and payment metadata needed to operate reminders and paid features.
- Browser extension auth tokens created after you explicitly link Telegram. Telegram only connects when you click Save to Knowledge Base or otherwise start the link flow.
Learning Content
- Flashcard questions, answers, concepts, review history, ratings, and scheduling metadata.
- Source text, page URL, page title, selected text, sidebar chat traces, generated card drafts, and saved wiki files when you use the browser extension learning harness.
- YouTube video IDs and metadata when you explicitly request a YouTube quiz or enable podcast features.
AI Provider Data
- Choose AI mode controls where selected text, questions, chat context, and card-generation context are sent.
- If you choose Memento-hosted AI or the 30-day trial, relevant learning content is sent to Memento's backend so we can generate answers or cards.
- If you choose OpenRouter, relevant learning content is sent from the extension to OpenRouter using your OpenRouter account credential. Memento does not store that credential on our server.
- Memento Pro is marked as coming soon until hosted billing and quota controls are ready.
Local Extension Storage
- The extension stores the Memento extension auth token, optional API base override, display-mode preference, non-secret provider metadata, and limited diagnostic events in Chrome extension storage.
- The OpenRouter runtime credential is stored in
chrome.storage.session and is intended to clear when the browser session ends. You can also delete it from extension settings.
- Local usage and cost estimates shown in settings are stored in the browser to help you understand provider usage.
How We Use Information
- To create, save, schedule, and review flashcards.
- To generate learning answers and card drafts from content you explicitly choose to use with Memento.
- To save extension learning sessions to your Memento knowledge base after you link Telegram.
- To send daily review reminders and operate spaced repetition.
- To provide podcast and YouTube quiz features when you enable them.
- To diagnose extension failures and improve reliability.
Third-Party Services
- Telegram: Used for account linking, bot commands, reminders, and review flows.
- OpenRouter: Used only when you choose to connect your OpenRouter account. Your selected text, questions, and learning-session context may be sent to OpenRouter for AI responses and card generation.
- Google and YouTube: Used only when you authorize Google or request YouTube-related features.
- Payment providers: Used for paid subscriptions where available.
Your Controls
- Disconnect Telegram from the extension by revoking the browser session in extension settings.
- Delete the OpenRouter session credential from extension settings.
- Remove the browser extension to clear extension-local data held by Chrome.
- Revoke Google access from your Google account settings.
- Request account export or deletion by contacting Memento.
Retention and Security
- We retain account and learning data while you use Memento, unless you request deletion.
- Extension link sessions expire quickly; extension auth tokens can be revoked from the browser.
- Access to production data is limited to authorized operators and service processes.
- No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but we avoid storing provider credentials on Memento servers unless a future hosted provider explicitly requires it and is covered by updated controls.
Children's Privacy
Memento is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as Memento changes. We will post updates on this page and adjust the effective date.
